The seventh HABEAS LOUNGE perspective group will explore housing in downtown Los Angeles. The real estate bubble of the past ten years helped to solidify downtown's redevelopment and the bubble's pop is having an effect on downtown too. Completed projects are facing major challenges in leasing and sales, eight projects have gone into bankruptcy protection, and more are still under construction. The housing market in DTLA is changing, but how and what will be its future. Could these economic changes in fact be leading to a more economically-inclusive downtown? What are your thoughts?
Join us in an intimate open discussion in the HABEAS LOUNGE as we welcome Hal Bastian, Senior Vice President and Director of Economic Development for the Los Angeles Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID), on Wednesday, November 4 from 6-8PM. Since joining the DCBID in December 2001, Hal has been responsible for overseeing the business and residential recruitment efforts for the organization. He has brought businesses to the area and has facilitated the development of over 12,000 new residential units, including both adaptive reuse conversions as well as new construction. Specifically, Hal has created and leads a series of Downtown tours to recruit commercial and residential real estate investors, lenders, office tenants, retailers, restaurants, as well as residents to the central city. Prior to joining the DCBID in 2001, he served as leasing director for Gilmore Associates’ Old Bank District Project, a 230-unit live/work loft and retail redevelopment, including the Continental, Hellman, and San Fernando buildings, in the Historic Core.
